What You Should Know about Fluconazole 150 mg

Diflucan, or its generic name fluconazole, has many uses when it comes to eliminating infections that are of yeast or fungal origin.  Fluconazole 150 mg effectively kills the fungi (that is causing an infection) by means of interrupting some processes occurring within their cell membranes.  Basically, fluconazole stops the fungi from producing a substance known as ergosterol.  Ergosterol is not present in animal or plant cells.  It is a crucial component of fungal and yeast cell membranes, and it mainly functions just like cholesterol in animal cells.  The interruption of ergosterol production results to holes appearing in the cell membrane of the fungi.  The cell membranes of fungi are important for their survival, because it functions in keeping away unwanted elements from entering the cells, just like a barrier. Also, it prevents the contents of the cell from pouring out.  Fluconazole causes holes to occur in the fungal cell membranes, which results to the vital components of the fungal cells to come out, killing the fungi, and thus treating the infection.

Diflucan (fluconazole) can be used to treat various different types of yeast and fungal infections, especially those that are caused by Candida species of fungi.  Fluconazole 150 mg capsules are specifically formulated to effectively treat yeast infections both in the vagina and penis.  The yeast infection that causes such a problem for human sex organs is called Candida albicans.  If a woman is found positive with Candida albicans, then she has a condition called vaginal thrush which causes vaginitis or inflammation of the vagina.  As for men, it is known as candidal balanitis or inflammation of the penis and/or foreskin.

With the help of fluconazole 150 mg, candidiasis can be treated almost immediately.  A one-time dose administration of fluconazole 150 mg is already 90% effective in eliminating and treating a vaginal yeast infection!  One fluconazole 150 mg capsule must be swallowed whole along with a glass of water.  It can be taken with or without food, whichever you prefer.

Keep in mind that if anyone you know has candidiasis, it is highly possible that their sexual partner also has the signs and symptoms of candidiasis, and it is very important that they are treated with fluconazole 150 mg as well so that it would eliminate the chances of getting re-infected.  Keep in mind that if the symptoms have not gotten better within a week of taking fluconazole 150 mg, you must consult your doctor.  Fluconazole 150 mg is not recommended for children who are under 16 years old (unless necessary), thus it is important that you do not store it in places where young children can reach it.

A loading dose is common when one is advised to undergo a daily fluconazole treatment regimen.  For instance, a loading dose of about 200 mg is recommended on the first day, and the subsequent dose on the next days will be 150 mg a day.

Keep in mind that fluconazole 150 mg is not advised to be taken by pregnant women or those who are planning to become pregnant.
