Finasteride – The Treatment mostly recommended for Male Hair Loss

The treatment that is most recommended for male-pattern baldness (one of the most common causes of male hair loss is known as finasteride 1mg.  It goes by the brand name Propecia, and it was developed by Merck pharmaceuticals.  In 1997, finasteride 1mg was approved by the US FDA as a prescription-only treatment for male-pattern baldness.

What is Finasteride 1mg and What Does It Do?

Finasteride 1mg has been tested and results have shown that it is extremely effective in 90% of males who have undergone the treatment.  The medication does not only aid in preventing more hair loss, but also it can stimulate the growth of new hair! In order to obtain satisfactory results, the treatment via finasteride 1mg must be commenced as soon as the early signs of male-pattern baldness start to manifest.

Finasteride 1mg is a medication that belongs to a class of medicines named type II 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, which means that it inhibits or stops the naturally-occurring conversion process of the male sex hormone, testosterone, into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).  Even if DHT is considered as a vital sex hormone, it can cause problems in some men when the quantity is unnaturally high inside their bodies.  Excessive DHT in the male body can lead to the hair follicles of the scalp to shrink, which gradually leads to the hair falling out.  What finasteride 1mg does is to simply help in lowering the amount of DHT in the body, thus preventing further hair loss.
