Homegrown Values 5 - Compassion

In today's world, compassion goes a long way. Compassion is living with an open heart, and being able to put yourself in another person's shoes and walk for a mile. Being compassionate means being tender hearted towards others and all of creation. We say that the golden rule is to treat others the way we want to be treated... but how many of us express true compassion for others in all situations? This extends out to further than your own family when you consider that we are all connected... we are all brothers and sisters, regardless of our race, our financial status, or where our choices have brought us in life.

When we practice compassion towards our fellow brothers and sisters regardless of their situation, we are practicing true divine compassion and love. The amazing thing about compassion is that when you are compassionate towards others, it comes back to your a hundred fold. God blesses you because of your compassionate nature. Practicing compassion in our society will cure it of many ills that so many experience.

Compassion can be taught to your child as you embody it yourself. Commit random acts of kindness and compassion towards others. Not only will this make the world a better place, but as your children observe you, they themselves will begin to do similar things.

Don't walk by someone who is hurting. Who cares if you don't know that person, help them! Share with them, even if it's just a kind word or a smile to lighten the load.

Living authentically with values, makes you a better parent and a better person. It helps your children live happier and more peacefully. Stand up for what you believe in. Make following your value system a priority in your life and do not accept compromise. Open your heart and as you do, you, your life and your family will be blessed abundantly.
